Tortuguero National Park is located in the Tortuguero Conservation Area, on the Caribbean coast, and its beaches are key nesting ground for endangered sea turtles, such as Hawksbill, Loggerheads, Green and Leatherbacks. The rivers within the park are home to sensitive populations of manatees, as well as caimans, crocodiles, and Tropical Gar, which is considered a living fossil.

Tortuguero is the third-most visited park in Costa Rica, despite the fact that it can only be reached by airplane or boat. Tortuguero National park has incredible biological variety, due to the existence within the reserve of eleven different habitats, including rainforest, swamps, beaches, and lagoons. The forests are home to jaguars, three species of monkeys (spider, howler, and white-faced Capuchin), and three-toed sloths. Basilisk lizards and poisonous frogs also inhabit the area, along with 375 species of birds including kingfishers, toucans, blue herons, peacocks, and parrots. There are more than 400 species of trees and approximately 2,200 species of plants.

There are a number of facilities at the park, such as Cuatro Esquinas Headquarters and the Mawamba Lodge, both of them located in the village of Tortuguero, in the northern part of the park. The Sector Jalova Station is further south near Jalova Lagoon and the town of Parismina. Aguas Frias Station is on the western edge close to the town of Cariari.

San José - Tortuguero - San José

day 01:	Pick up in the morning, departure to Tortuguero National Park passing through Braulio Carrillo National Park. Breakfast in route. Board a comfortable boat and admire the flora and the fauna of the Tortuguero Canals. Typical lunch in the hotel. After lunch, we will visit the museum, the beach area and the small and picturesque town of Tortuguero. Dinner.Optional Night Tour: dmire the green turtles nesting (July through September)
day 02:	Breakfast in the hotel.Transfer to San José by boat and bus transportation.

Mawamba lodge Mawamba Lodge is situated on the Northeast area of Costa Rica's Caribbean Coast on a sand bar between the Tortuguero Canals and the Caribbean Ocean, an excellent location that provides direct access to the pristine beach and the canals. Nestled in the lush rainforest, this is the ideal hideaway for nature lovers and the perfect place to discover the wonders of the Tortuguero National Park. The Lodge is a 15-acre beach front property located on the right side of Tortuguero, offering nice views to the Tortuguero Lagoon and the canals. Mawamba’s beautiful gardens and rustic accommodations, blend with the exuberant jungle vegetation, exotic birds and wildlife creating the perfect balance of nature. Although, please be cautious because dangerous currents make the ocean in the area unsafe for swimming. Laguna Lodge Laguna Lodge is located on a narrow strip of land, six hundred feet wide, the lodge’s spacious gardens enjoy the Caribbean Sea on one side and Tortuguero Lagoon on the other. The lodge has fifteen acres, full of trees and exotic plants, the gardens also shelter a great number of birds and butterflies. Laguna Lodge offers 80 rooms divided in blocks of 4 or 6 rooms furnished with all the basic elements for a very comfortable stay. Private bathroom, hot water, ceiling fan, reading lamps, wooden benches outside your room to admire the gardens. The lodge also offers: Open air restaurant overlooking the Tortuguero Lagoon, 2 bars, one located over the lagoon and another one next to the swimming pool area. All of them decorated with woods from the beach. Swimming pool with hydro-massage waterfall and a small islet. Huts with hammocks to take a nap, read a book or simply relax. -Fifteen acres full of trees and exotic plants. Open butterfly garden with local plants that attract local species. Private trails.
