In the last years, Costa Rica has become one of the most popular destinations in the world for birdwatchers. The amazing diversity of habitats encountered in Costa Rica, represented by one of the most extensive systems of National Parks and protected areas in the world, allow birders to find very many species with relatively little traveling. Combine the exuberant nature of Tortuguero National Park, the beautiful Turrialba, Sarapiquí and Monteverde Cloud Forest.
Day 01:
|
Upon arrival at Juan Santamaría International airport, our driver will meet and transfer you to Don Carlos Hotel in San José. Located in the oldest historical section of San José, the ‘Four Star’ Hotel Don Carlos is a small, but significant part of Costa Rica’s rich heritage. Once upon a time residence for two past Presidential families, the historical Hotel Don Carlos’ warmth and charm, graciously awaits you.

| Day 02: |
You will enjoy a delicious breakfast on the way to Tortuguero, situated on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. Roads are scarce in this region, and you’ll navigate a system of waterways as you explore the rainforest. In Caño Blanco dock you take the boat and you’ll begin a two-hour adventure through the jungle and canals, arriving at Mawamba Lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, you will visit the picturesque Tortuguero´s town and the small museum of the Caribbean Conservation Corporation.
In Tortuguero you might see toucans, brightly colored macaws or even some boisterous howler monkeys traipsing through the trees. With nearly 14 miles of coastline, Tortuguero National Park is one of the most important nesting sites for four varieties of marine turtles, including the massive Green Turtle, which can weigh over 400 pounds.

| Day 03: |
Early in the morning, boat trip through the canals with the surrounding jungle. After a delicious breakfast, you will be taken a hike where you can admire the tropical rainforest. Lunch. In the afternoon you will explore other canals by boat. Overnight at Mawamba Lodge.

| Day 04: |
After breakfast, boat transfer to Siquirres and then private land transportation and bilingual naturalist guide to continue to Turrialba Area, to Rancho Naturalista Lodge. The lodge is part of a 125 acres ranch set in a premontane rain forest at an altitude of 3000 feet. (Lunch and dinner)

| Day 05: |
Early in the morning, the guide will be waiting for you in the main lodge's balcony, where around 250 or more species have being see. At around 7 a.m. you will enjoy breakfast and then begin your hike through the different trails in the property. Lunch and dinner in the lodge. More birding in the afternoon in some of the sorrounding areas of the lodge.
Over 400 species of birds have been recorded by guests locally. Rancho Naturalista is nowdays the best spot to see the Snowcap (Microchera alborocoronata).

| Day 06: |
After an early breakfast, we will continue to Selva Verde Lodge in Sarapiquí Area. This lodge has a 500 acre rainforest reserve with a variety of flycatchers, tanagers, honeycreepers and manakins. Lunch and dinner. Birdwatching walk through the trails of the lodge.

| Day 07: |
Breakfast in the lodge. Optional: Visit to La Selva: A living laboratory, adjacent to the Braulio Carrillo National Park, La Selva occupies over 3,500 acres of virgin rainforest. Twice daily guided hikes open the door to a rarely seen ecosystem where 1,000 types of trees, 420 bird species, and two-thirds of the nation’s mammals thrive.

| Day 08: |
After a delicious continental breakfast, you will be transferred to Arenal area. The very active Arenal Volcano frequently emits sounds of violent explosions, attended by clouds of gray, brown, and orange gases. Overnight at Arenal Springs Hotel, who offers spectacular views of the nightly showers of lava and glowing rocks discharged from the volcano, from the private balcony.
At the evening, visit to Tabacón hot springs, where the hot springs flow from the veins of the splendorous and active Arenal Volcano. Enjoy this natural wonder of Costa Rica and soothing feeling in any of mineral pools and naturally warm waterfalls.Each thermo mineral water pool varies in temperature and depth, and some vary in mineral count

| Day 09: |
Breakfast. Tour to Caño Negro. The tour starts at 7: 30 a.m. when we pick up all “Nature Lovers” from the hotel to go to Los Chiles, a culturally mixed village only 4-km from the Nicaraguan border. Here your boat waits for your river adventure, at that time we begin our 4-hour floating safari through Tropical Rain Forest and pastures until we arrive at the marsh.
The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge and the Rio Frío are biological humid areas considered to be one of the richest in biological diversity in Costa Rica. Here you can find a great variety of resident and migratory birds plus three different species of monkeys, also iguanas, sloths, turtles and caymans.
In the afternoon, transfer from Arenal to Monteverde Cloud Forest. Overnight at the Trapp Family Lodge.

| Day 10: |
After breakfast, you will be taken to the Monteverde Biological Reserve; where you may spot birds such as the silvery-throated jay, spangled-checked tanager, black-thighed grosbeak, and the yellow-throated finch. Mammals such as peccaries, puma, and mountain deer also can be seen.
In the afternoon, you will be taken to the Walkways; this is a unique system of suspension bridges that zigzag through deep canyons at the level of the treetops. Here you will experience the cloud forest from a nice perspective.
Overnight at the Trapp Family Lodge.

| Day 11: |
Breakfast. Free morning. At the afternoon, departure to San José. Overnight at Don Carlos Hotel.

| Day 12: |
Breakfast. Transfer to the International Airport to your flight back home.
