Arenal Volcano National park and Tabacón or Baldí Hot Springs
An overnight experience in the most
active volcano and relax in the thermal waters

The Arenal Volcano area is one of the best attractions in Costa Rica, where you can relax in the hot springs and feel the soothing waters, with an excellent view to the most active volcano in the country.

Arenal Volcano is one of the most scenic volcanoes in Costa Rica. It has the shape of an almost perfect cone, and can be seen from very far away, although not every tourist has the luck of observing its top, since clouds appear and disappear constantly, sometimes in a matter of seconds.

It is one of the most active volcanoes in the world: it makes a small eruption approximately every 45 minutes. Sometimes the sound of the eruption can be confused with thunder, depending on the distance to the volcano. Between the XIII and XIV Century its activity ceased, but erupted in 1968. Arenal's eruptions are strombolian in type, being frequent but moderate and can be viewed without danger as long as the viewers are behind the safety perimeter. This constant activity and minimal endangerment makes Arenal a popular tourist destination, especially at night.

During the night, if the clouds do not obstruct the view, the flow of lava can be seen and photographed. Numerous hotels, spas and hot springs are located near Arenal Volcano National Park, being the town of La Fortuna, the main settlement near it. Several hotels are located near the Tabacón Grand Spa and Baldi, so they offer hot springs, which can be accessed by paying a fee. The volcano view and the hot springs are the reason most visitors come.

The Arenal Volcano National park has an extension of 120 square kilometers. The volcano is 1650 meters high (3281 to 5436 feet) and has a perfect cone shape.

Is a five-stars resort. A three-time World Travel Awards recipient and three-leaf Sustainable Tourism Certificate holder, the 114-room property offers luxurious accommodations and friendly service in a quaint tropical environment.

The Grand Spa specializes in invigorating hydrotherapy therapies and volcanic mud therapies, special massages and skin-care treatments. Our certified therapists will guide you to the ultimate relaxation using massage, traditional healing techniques, and the natural resources provided by Tabacon’s extraordinary surroundings, leaving you refreshed and with the feeling of natural beauty.

Hot springs are considered a natural expression of Earth’s inherent energy. Geologically, Tabacón Resort’s hot springs are 97% rain-based and 3% magma-based. Rainwater enters the earth through fissures on the surface and is then heated by magma found in the earth’s core. Once heated, the waters rise to surface, taking with them minerals found in the earth’s rocky stratus. Thus, the resort’s waters are loaded with minerals. Hot springs provide many benefits stemming from various chemical, physical and biological effects.
